Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about working with Backyard Creations.

How long does it take to build a pool?

Most pools are complete within 1.5–3 months from excavation. The timeline depends on the size and complexity of your project, weather, and permit approvals. We will give you a realistic timeline estimate during your consultation.

What areas do you serve?

We serve residential and commercial customers across Alabama (including the greater Birmingham area), Florida (the Emerald Coast — 30A, Panama City Beach, Destin, and surrounding areas), and select markets in Tennessee. Contact us to confirm availability for your specific location.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We have partnered with HFS Financial (1-800-254-9560) and Lyon Financial (1-877-754-5966) to offer competitive financing options. Don't let budget be the only reason you don't get the pool you want — reach out to either lender to learn what you qualify for.

What is Pool School?

Pool School is a walkthrough we do with every customer on completion day. We cover water chemistry basics, how to balance your pool, your maintenance schedule, troubleshooting common issues, and how your equipment works. We also provide start-up chemicals and a water test kit so you feel confident from the very first day.

Do you use subcontractors?

Not for the critical work. Our in-house crew handles excavation, plumbing, structural rebar, shotcrete, coping, and decking. That means tighter quality control, faster timelines, and a single point of accountability for your entire project.

Can you build commercial pools?

Absolutely. We have built large-scale resort and hotel pools, including the Margaritaville Beach Cottage Resort in Panama City Beach, FL. We have the experience, crew size, and project management capability to handle commercial projects of any scale.

What pool shapes and sizes do you build?

We build pools of virtually any shape and size — freeform, rectangular, lap pools, plunge pools, and fully custom designs. If you can imagine it, we can build it. We will show you the design in full 3D before construction begins so there are no surprises.

What finishes and materials can I choose from?

For pool finish, we offer White Plaster, Blue Quartz, Pebble Tec, and Dark Quartz. For coping, options include Travertine, Natural Stone, Bullnose Brick, Concrete, and Cantilever. We will help you choose the right combination for your style and budget during the design phase.

How does the design process work?

We start with a free consultation and on-site survey. Then we use professional 3D design software to render your pool — size, shape, depth, features, and finish — so you can see exactly what you are getting before we break ground. You will finalize your material selections (coping, tile, plaster) about a month before excavation begins.

Can I add features like a spa, waterfall, or fire feature?

Yes. We build and install a wide range of add-ons: spas, tanning ledges, waterfalls, grottos, fire features, beach entries, slides, and automation systems. These are easiest to plan and install during new construction, but we can often add features to existing pools as well.

How much does a custom pool cost?

Pool pricing varies significantly based on size, shape, materials, and features. The best way to get an accurate number is to schedule a free consultation — we will come to your property, assess the site, and give you a real quote based on your specific vision. We believe in honest, upfront pricing.

What happens if I have questions after the pool is finished?

We are a family-run, local business — not a national chain. You have our direct contact information and we will be reachable. If you ever have questions about your pool, chemistry, or equipment, you can call or email us directly.

Still Have Questions?

We are happy to walk you through anything over the phone or in person. Reach out and we will get back to you promptly.
